🏔Holy Mountain: Quest for Kailas
How can you communicate the importance of a spiritual journey?
Interactive story for the India China Institute
The India China Institute (ICI) needed a new method to highlight their research on the landscape surrounding Kailas, a holy mountain on the border of India, China, and Nepal. They had a large collection of photographs, videos, and other material that didn’t fit into their academic journal articles and formal conference presentations. They reached out to Antidote to explore new possibilities in storytelling beyond academic research.
Kailas is a holy mountain for Sikh, Buddhist, Bampo, and Hindu pilgrims, who often view it as the center of the world. ICI had taken several journeys here and wanted to share the surreal combination of the rugged beauty of the landscape along with the unusual religious diversity and tolerance practiced by the pilgrims undertaking this journey.
Antidote conducted interviews of the team members who went on the journey, curated sounds, videos, and images, and created an interactive narrative experience encompassing a pilgrimage to Kailas. As everyone’s personal journey is different, the interactive narrative form helped highlight the individuality of a journey for enlightenment.
Quest for Kailas was launched as a mobile-first experience at the Sacred Mountains and Landscapes Conference in 2017 in New York City.
Quest for Kailash is a web-based experience that can be played on any device with access to the internet.
